Lavender Hill & Colfax Ave Announce Denver’s 1st Annual Winter Pride
Lavender Hill Cultural District and Colfax Ave BID Announce Denver’s First Annual Winter Pride Celebration
A Month of Community, Inclusivity, and Connection on Colfax Ave and in Lav Hill during December 2024
Denver, CO – November 22, 2024 – This December, Denver’s Colfax Ave Business Improvement District and their partners at the Lavender Hill Cultural District are proud to announce Denver’s First Annual Winter Pride celebration, a month-long series of inclusive events and activities designed to unite and uplift the LGBTQ+ community and allies. With a wide range of events—varying in activity, place, time, and ambiance—Winter Pride promises a warm and welcoming space for everyone, from sober gatherings to festive evenings, throughout the month of December.
This grass-roots effort to establish Winter Pride brings a spirit of joy and solidarity to the holiday season, a time some in the LGBTQ+ community may find challenging or emotional and to remind ourselves and the wider Denver community that Pride is not just limited to one season. “Winter Pride on Colfax is about creating a safe, inclusive space that reminds our community they are seen and valued, especially during the holidays, which can be a tough time for many,” shared Denon Moore, Colfax Ave Business Support Director. “We’re honored to support Colfax businesses in providing a welcoming experience for all and launching what hopefully becomes a popular tradition.”
Winter Pride's diverse offering of events will kick-off with the Colfax Ave tree lighting ceremony featuring live music, vendors, and caroling with the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus. The month’s events will feature a variety of gatherings including drag brunch, craft and art sales, nightlife experiences, and opportunities for giving back. Colfax Ave and Lav Hill’s local businesses will host a spectrum of events that foster connection, whether guests are looking to relax and recharge or celebrate with friends. “Charlie’s Denver is thrilled to be working with Lavender Hill and all of Colfax to bring Winter Pride to life for the entire LGBTQ+ Denver community. The holidays are a special time of year for us as we strive to give back. It’s an honor to be on Colfax Ave and to be able to spread love and pride over the holiday season with our neighbors,” said Matthew D. Peters, General Manager at Charlie’s Denver.
Throughout the month, Winter Pride will also include sober or sober-optional events and gatherings designed to provide a comfortable space for those seeking community without alcohol. From Drag brunch and history tours, to music showcases and food specials, Winter Pride will offer activities and gatherings to suit every preference and schedule. “Lavender Hill is thrilled to partner in bringing this vision of inclusivity to life along Colfax Avenue,” said Zach Kotel, Executive Director and co-founder of the Lavender Hill Cultural District. “This initiative creates a space of warmth and kindness for Denver’s queer community during the holiday season, with a reminder that support and joy are available to everyone, year-round.”
Winter Pride invites all Denverites and visitors to be part of this fun celebration of pride, love, and community. For a full list of events and other details, follow us on Instagram at @colfaxave and @lavenderhilldenver.
