Lav Hill Unveils 50th Anniversary Pride Banners

Lavender Hill Cultural District Unveils New Street Banners for Denver Pride's 50th Anniversary

As Denver prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Pride this June, the Lavender Hill Cultural District has added a vibrant touch to Colfax Avenue with new pole-mounted street banners along the parade route and extending down Colfax to Josephine Street. This initiative, has been a coordinated collaboration with The Center on Colfax and the Colfax Ave Business Improvement District, and together, these organizations aim to honor the rich history of Denver Pride while reinforcing our city's commitment to diversity and equality.

The banners, designed to celebrate and uplift, transform Colfax into a colorful display of pride and unity and feature images of historic pride parades, including the first parade. These banners publicly highlight the community's resilience, the obstacles we’ve faced, and the progress we’ve made over the past fifty years, as we look forward to the next 50 years of the Queer Rights movement.

Known for its extensive work in providing support, advocacy, and resources for the LGBTQ+ community, The Center on Colfax ensures that Denver Pride is a time of joyful celebration and meaningful reflection. The Center's involvement in Lavender Hill and this project underscores their ongoing commitment to making Denver a more inclusive and welcoming place for all of its LGBTQ+ communities.

The Colfax Ave BID has also been instrumental in this project, recognizing the importance of showcasing Colfax Avenue as a central hub for community gatherings and events such as Pride and the MLK Jr. Day Marade. By supporting the installation of these street banners, the BID highlights Colfax's role as a historic and cultural artery of Denver, where diverse communities have always and continue to come together.

The unveiling of these new street banners is more than just a decorative enhancement. It’s a powerful symbol of unity, resilience, and pride in the Mile High City and a signal to all Denverites that Queer is Here.

You can admire our beautiful banners, join the festivities at Black Pride Colorado’s week of events, participate in the Pride parade and Denver PrideFest, and attend other parties, events, fundraisers, and speeches in Denver throughout the month of June.

Here's to celebrating the past, present, and future of Denver Pride!
